I'm too chicken to get my hair cut...what can I do?

I have longer hair and I'm thinking about getting a short cut ( just below chin length)...but I don't want to do something so dramatic because what if it didn't look good? I'm 15. When I was about ten I got a short haircut(shoulder brushing) and looked terrrible. I want a good cut, but I don't know what would be good for my face shape. My face shape doesn't really fit into any catagory. Its long, but I don't have a high forhead, not too strong cheekbones. So I'm really not sure. Can you help me please?!

Don't cut it so short at one time. It's best to take baby steps and take of few inches first and there are two reasons: first is that you need to get used to shorter hair, a big cut is a bit of a shocker and you may not like it for a while (and why make yourself unhappy?) and the second is that hair has natural kinks that you may not be aware of when it is long, but once you cut it super-short it may start sticking up etc. I would recommend getting 3-4 inches off at most- and see how you like it.

Have you seen Reese Witherspoons new haircut she looks gorgeous with bangs and shoulder length with blond highlights....the pictures I keep seeing her in are all over the gossip mags wearing a yellow dress!

No need to be drastic about it, just get a few taken off the ends and see how it looks. Try a "little bit" of layers.

Well to start off, everyones face shape fits into a catagory. You should try leaving your a long but have layers in the front about chin level. If you don't want a dramatic look have your stylist cut a little bit off %26amp; if you like it or want it shorter you can always come back.

pull it up into a ponytail and have the stylist cut off as much as you can deal with (as short as you can deal with) then have the stylist take it down, shampoo it , and use that as a guideline as to the length.

if you want to try out a cut, go to clairol.com and click on the "Try It On Studio". all you do is upload a photo of yourself and you can test out hair cuts and colors, its really helpful.

This might sound funny but... if it is possible go into a wig shop and try on different hair styles and colors ( i did that when i was a little chicken to get a cut w/ highlights). It really helped me to decide.

Also, cut it a little at a time until you are comfortable with the length... don't do it all at once and then regret it later. It is best to cut a little at a time and if you want it shorter you can cut it off... but if you cut it too short you can't add hair back on!

GOOD LUCK!

ask your hairdresser. Most of the time they will be able to tell you what will look good on you with your face shape and everything. Don't rush into things either. Take your time and find pics of the hairstyle you want. Try to imagine what it will look like on yourself. And again, ask your hairdresser after showing her a pic of what you want. Then you just have to grit your teeth and go for it! remember..it's just hair, so it will grow back!
